Director of Faith Formation: Ashlee Campbell
St. Louis Church offers a multi-grade religious education setting for children in Pre-K through 10th grade (Pre-K/K, 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, 7th/8th grade, & 9th/10th grade). All students are welcome and there is no cost to enroll. We recommend parish registration before enrollment. While students attending Catholic schools receive faith training in school, we encourage public school students to join us. Our program meets the Catholic Diocese requirement for religious instruction. Our classes run from mid September to late April. Classes are held in the Church Hall (located below the church in the basement) and occur between the two Sunday Masses, from 9:50a.m. - 10:50a.m.
Catechists: Our catechists are knowledgeable parishioners who volunteer their time to pass on the Catholic faith to the next generation. We have a committed group of Catechists who have been with us for several years and we always welcome new Catechists. Our aim is for every grade to be taught by co-catechists and use a team teaching approach. If you are interested in serving as a catechist, please contact the DRE, Ashlee Campbell.
Family Faith Formation Days: There will be three Family Faith Formation days this year. On these days, parents are invited and encouraged to attend Faith Formation classes with their children as a way to practice their faith through service and catechesis. The first class, Sunday, December 4th, is service based and the other two classes, Sunday, January 15th & Sunday, February 5th, will address topics related to the Catholic faith. Family Faith Formation classes are held during normal religious education time, 9:50 to 10:50 a.m.
Service Days: There will be two service projects this year. First, PreK-10th graders will make sandwiches for the St. Louis Sandwich Program on Sunday, October 9th. Families will be asked to donate items to make the sandwiches. During the class session, children will make sandwiches, decorate bags, create cards, and deliver the sandwiches to the Rectory (where the sandwiches will be given out during the week). Parents are welcome to attend and help with this service project. Second, PreK-10th graders will sell green carnations for St. Patrick's Day, before and after the three Masses during the March 11th/12th weekend. Money raised will be given to Catholic Charities.
Young Christian's at Work Retreat: All high school students (at least 13 years of age) are invited to participate in an all-day "Young Christian's at Work" retreat (8-5 p.m.) on Saturday, October 22nd. The goal of the program is to engage teens in community service activities with learning and reflection and social justice. "Young Christians at Work" helps youth think critically about breakdowns in society and how Catholicism calls us to respond in light of the 7 principles of Catholic Social Teaching. Confirmation candidates should attend this retreat as their Confirmation retreat. St. Louis will join St. Joseph’s University Parish for this retreat.
Volunteer Opportunities: There are a variety of opportunities for our 3rd – 10th grade children to actively volunteer at Mass. Children can lector, usher, present the gifts, and be an altar server. Training for these roles is provided by the church. Children can volunteer as much or as little as desired and at the Mass they typically attend on the weekend.
