Unsung Heroes of St. Louis Church by Marilyn Young

I sat thinking one night of our beautiful church and of the people that make it so. We have our pastor, a very able administrator and our spiritual guide. We have our church secretary, business manager, and bookkeeper, who run the rectory office flawlessly. We have our historian, who is not only the keeper of our museum, but our resident genealogist and scholarly docent of our church. Let us not forget our accomplished organist or the choir that he leads. Our popular cantor leads us in song at every Mass. There is the parish counsel and other committees that lend their expertise to keep the parish viable. Who could forget the garden society that makes our corner at Main and Edward a sight to behold during each season of the year. We have our picnic and party planners and the volunteers that make these get-togethers a fun time for all. Did you ever think about the photographer who takes the picture that appears on your Christmas card each year? We have our lectors, greeters, ushers, eucharistic ministers, altar servers, catechists, home/hospital visitors and the list goes on and on. I do not mean to leave anyone out of this assembly and my apologies to anyone who may feel slighted.

I have purposely left out any specific names up to this point. Most of us can put names and faces to the groups I have mentioned. However, there are two individuals that work quietly behind the scenes and accomplish what many of us take for granted. I am speaking specifically of our two trustees, Mike Mikos and Rosemary Bloch. Both of these individuals spend hours every week on projects at St. Louis that benefit us all.

I would like to take as examples the lift project and the financial report. Mike was instrumental in getting this project completed. How many times have you looked at the steps leading down to the church hall and decided it was not in your best interest to attempt them. Now, all you have to do is to get into the lift cab and get beamed down to the hall and then get a helpful boost back to the parking lot. If you want to know how your money is spent, check the financial report. That report did not just happen. It took many hours of dedicated toil to get this report completed. I could go on further about many other tasks the trustees take on, but I think you get the picture.

Rosemary can usually be found at the 9:00 AM Mass on Sunday and Mike at the 4:00 PM Vigil Mass. Take the time to say hello or give them a wave because I sure do not know what we would do without them.
