Last week we celebrated Easter, the Resurrection of Christ the Lord. This is the beginning of our Easter season which will be celebrated for the next seven weeks or 50 days. During this time we have the opportunity to reflect on how Jesus reveals himself to his disciples, how Jesus reveals himself to us and how we are to make present the Risen Lord in our world today.
After overcoming their initial fear at seeing the empty tomb and experiencing the Risen Lord, the disciples are filled with joy. We re-read the stories of this Easter joy experienced by the early Christian community which helps us to know that this Easter joy is ours too. These days will help us to know how to proclaim the message of the Risen Lord as did the early Church.
Through the appearances of the Risen Lord, the disciples’ proclamation of the Resurrection, their healing of the sick and baptizing many households, we too learn that this is also our mission. The same Holy Spirit that the first disciples received, we receive as well. The Spirit empowers us to continue to spread the Easter Gospel to all.
Let us go in peace glorifying our Lord by our lives.
