World Mission Sunday will be celebrated in our local Church and throughout the world next weekend October 23rd and 24th. This celebration comes when we are still experiencing challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In his message for World Mission Sunday, Pope Francis tells us that “Once we experience the power of God’s presence in our personal community life, we cannot help but proclaim and share what we have seen and heard.”
Everything about Christ reminds us that he knows our world well and its need for redemption. Christ calls us to become actively engaged in this mission; “Go therefore to the highways and byways, and invite everyone you find.” (MT22:9). No one is excluded, no one need feel distant or removed from his compassionate love.
This celebration of World Mission Sunday is also an occasion for reaffirming how prayer, reflection, and the material help of our offerings are so many opportunities to participate actively in the mission of Jesus in His Church. The charity expressed in the collections that take place during the liturgical celebrations of Mission Sunday is aimed at supporting the missionary work carried out in the name of Pope Francis by the Pontifical Mission Societies, in order to meet the spiritual and material needs of peoples and Churches throughout the world, for the salvation of all.
Through the Second Collection next Weekend, the Society for the Propagation of the Faith helps the society to provide resources to missionaries in 1,111 mission dioceses throughout the world to care for Christian communities in need and for the proclamation of the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
Let us fulfill our call by being missionaries to one another and through prayers and support to people doing mission work in different countries in the world.
