OUR FEAST OF ST. LOUIS

Last Thursday, August 25th, was the feast of St. Louis. The stained glass windows in the apse of the church above the main altar depict the life of St. Louis. St Louis is most noted for his position as King of France and leading two crusades to the Holy Land. However, he was more than a king and a soldier. He was also a family man and a man of deep faith. St. Louis always interpreted his kingly duties in light of faith.

St. Louis was devoted to his people, founding hospitals, visiting the sick and caring for people with leprosy. Through his life of holiness and charity St. Louis brought peace to his nation for many years. What is most remarkable was his sense of respect for anyone with whom he dealt, especially the “humble folk of the Lord.”

St. Louis died in 1270 and was canonized in 1297. Since then St. Louis has had a significant impact on the lives of many people. The great tradition continues through our own Parish Faith Community. There are the poor and hungry who receive food at our door thanks to our sandwich program. Through our Faith Formation programs our parish offers spiritual nourishment to people of faith. The sacramental life of our parish offers the grace of God to all who come here to pray. Our parish continues the work of St. Louis taught to his own family.

Our church, at the corner of Main and Edward Streets continues to be a sign of faith and an invitation to join in God’s grace. Happy Feast of St. Louis and through his intercession may we all receive God’s blessings.
