Holy Week begins this weekend. Please read to learn about all the events that will be happening. Everyone is invited to join us for all of these celebrations.
Holy Week begins this weekend with Passion (Palm) Sunday. During these services we bless palms that commemorate Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem just prior to his death on the cross. Palms will be handed to everyone as they enter the church. Please take palms from the tables at the entrances of church. We also read the Passion Narrative according to the Gospel of Luke as part of the Mass this weekend.
Tuesday, April 12th at 7:00PM at the Cathedral, Bishop Michael Fisher will celebrate Mass at which the priests renew their priestly commitment and at which the Oils we use in church will be blessed. The three oils are the Oil of the Catechumenate used before one is baptized; the Sacred Chrism which is used for baptism, confirmation, and the anointing of the priests hands at ordination; and the oil of the sick used for the anointing of the sick.
Holy Thursday 7:00PM is the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. The Mass concludes with a procession with the Blessed Sacrament to the altar of repose. The Church will then remain open for private prayer until 10:30PM.
Good Friday is the celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 2:00PM. This is a celebration of the Liturgy of the Word with the reading of the Passion according to John’s Gospel followed by veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion.
The Easter Vigil will take place at 7:00PM on Holy Saturday. Lighting of the Fire and the Paschal Candle will take place as usual with the procession with the Paschal Candle. Candles will be handed out as people enter the church. Michael Nowak and Kyla Himelein will be joining our faith community through Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. We congratulate them having completed the Rite of Christian Initiation during this past year.
Easter Sunday Masses will be as usual, 9:00AM and 11:00AM.
