We hear much about peace and goodwill during the Christmas season.
The days leading up to the celebration of Christmas are filled with many activities. There is decorating to do, baking and cooking, shopping, addressing Christmas cards and preparing visits during the holiday season as well as attending parties.
One of the things that often accompanies these activities is music in the background. We all love to listen to the Christmas Carols of the season. There is one in particular that has an interesting history. In October 1962, during the height of the Cuban missile Crisis, one of the most popular songs of the Christmas season was written. It was written by Gloria Shayn and Noel Regney. The title of the song is Do You Hear What I Hear? It was written as a plea for peace as the United States and the Soviet Union confronted each other over the placement of Soviet missiles in newly Communist Cuba. The song was then recorded by the Harry Simeone Chorale and released that Christmas season. Bing Crosby’s recording of the song became a worldwide hit the following Christmas.
We hear much about peace and goodwill during the Christmas season. Let us resolve to make peace and goodwill a New Year’s resolution and live it each day of the year. Thank you also to everyone who joined us for the party.
It was good to see Fr. Madsen at our Christmas party. He returned home a couple of weeks ago and is still recovering from his accident. His address is: Msgr. Conniff Residence, 68 Cowing Street, Depew, NY 14043
Thank you to all who helped arrange and prepare the Christmas Party again this year. It was very successful thanks to the hard work of many people.
