Celebrating Service is the topic of our Parish Program Series People of Faith: Living as Disciples Sunday, November 12th from 12:00 p.m.—1:30 p.m. This Veterans Day program celebrates our service to God, Country, and Our Community. We will reflect on how to live as models of the Beatitudes and Catholic Social Justice Teachings. Sister Johnice from the Response to Love Center will be our Guest Speaker.
Country: This weekend we remember and honor all those who have served our country in the armed services. Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans, living or deceased. Veterans Day particularly honors the living veterans who serve our country honorably during war and peacetime. We thank all those who have served our country to protect the freedoms that we have come to enjoy and pray for all who serve in the military that they may be safe and reunited with their families soon. As we honor our veterans this week, let us also continue to pray for peace so that no other lives are lost and families may be spared the anguish that comes with the loss of life.
Our Community: As a way to reach out to our community and those in need, Msgr. Schwinger years ago established the Sandwich Program at St. Louis. It has continued on a daily basis Monday through Friday mornings. People who need a midday meal can come to the door of the rectory and receive a couple of sandwiches and sometimes an extra treat to help them through the day. We will be making a sandwich for ourselves and for the Sandwich Program uniting ourselves with those in need.
There are many ways we can serve God, our Country and our Community. These are just a couple of the ways we can reach out to one another in compassion, care and concern for our neighbor.
