During the month of October we are reminded of the sacredness of life and the joy of love.
October is Respect Life Month and begins with Respect Life Sunday, October 4th. During the month of October we are reminded of the sacredness of life and the joy of love. Through prayer and the celebration of Mass, we can know and love God better and open our hearts to all human life. Pope Francis reminds us: “Even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect.”
We know that we live in a world full of threats to the sanctity and dignity of human life. However, we also know that through prayer, education, responsible citizenship and pastoral care of all human life we can transform our society into a culture of life. We can protect the unborn, serve those faced with disabilities, care for the sick and dying, and stand against violence.
“Live the Gospel of Life” has been a consistent theme of St. John Paul II and Pope Francis and one that has particular urgency today. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops call us to joyfully follow the example of Christ, to love without limits, and further, to act on the sense of true Christian charity.
One concrete way for us to show our Respect for Life is by contributing to the support of the ministries devoted to helping others who are faced with challenges of life.
The St. Gianna Molla Pregnancy Outreach Center provides material, emotional and spiritual support to single mothers, fathers, and young families in need from pregnancy through the first years of life. The material support they offer are such things as clothing, blankets, bibs, bottles, diapers, wipes, and basic infant care necessities.
