FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM

                The Bishops of the United States have called all the faithful to celebrate the Fortnight for Freedom: Witnesses to Freedom which will take place from Tuesday, June 21st to Monday, July 4, 2016. This year’s theme emphasizes the many witnesses to religious freedom, both past and present.

                The Fortnight for Freedom runs from the vigil of the feast of Sts. Thomas More and John Fisher, to July 4 when we celebrate our national Independence Day. It is a time to promote our Catholic heritage as a contribution to the good of our country, and to pray for those who suffer from persecution.

                For decades, Catholics have worked to serve the common good in the United States. Catholics have faced opposition at times, but our commitment to doing the works of mercy through our institutions, like hospitals, schools, and charities has remained steadfast.

                The U.S. bishops have called for a Fortnight for Freedom, two weeks for Catholics to reflect on religious freedom, to celebrate our Catholic heritage and to pray for our country and for our brothers and sisters in other parts of the world, who suffer persecution.
