The Sacraments of the Church are our gift from God and Jesus.
The Gospel this weekend tells us about Jesus meeting two of his disciples on the road to Emmaus. They urged Jesus to stay with them. “While he was with them at the table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him.” We too recognize Jesus in the breaking of the bread or the Eucharist we celebrate at Mass each Sunday. We have received the gift of faith and the way that we nourish that gift of faith is through allowing God to show us His love. The Sacraments of the Church are our gift from God and Jesus. It is through the grace of the Sacraments that Jesus and His Father come to live with us.
Our Church of St. Louis through the grace of the Holy Spirit continues to grow as the Lord works wonders among us. During the Easter season we continue to celebrate growth in our faith as we celebrate with our members the Sacraments of Baptism, Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation.
Next Saturday morning we will celebrate the Sacrament of Penance with our young people and their families who have been learning about God’s mercy and forgiveness.
Next Sunday morning at the 11:00 Mass, we will celebrate the First Eucharist with our young people and their families who have been preparing to receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time.
On Sunday, June 4th, Pentecost Sunday, our young adults who have been preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit at the Cathedral.
Easter is truly a season of grace when we celebrate the life of God within us. As we continue to grow in our faith during this Easter season let us like the early Church pray for one another as the gift of the Holy Spirit continues to come to dwell within us.
