Last Saturday at the 4:00 Mass there was an incident that was disturbing to many people who were attending Mass. In the middle of Mass a man with sunglasses, a hat and a large duffel bag entered the church from Main Street and came down the center aisle and sat in the first pew. He dropped his duffel bag with a thud. Some alert parishioners began to move forward just in case. He then proceeded to get up and walk around. Many people became frightened and rightly so living in the climate that exists today.
Who knows what was in that duffel bag? Our thoughts recall the many horrible events that have occurred in several places of worship around the world. Thank God nothing happened.
There were probably about 150 people at that Mass. Only one person called the police. I was told that at least one person took a picture. Come to find out rather than calling the police two TV stations were called. If there is something suspicious going on and you are nervous, don’t hesitate to call the police, even if it turns out to be nothing. It is better to be safe than sorry.
I believe the more people that call the police, the higher priority the call will receive. If you think it is necessary to take a picture, call the police first. TV stations can always wait. It is more important to notify the police for our safety. We are located at 780 Main Street, in Downtown Buffalo at the corner of Main and Edward Streets. Tell the police we need assistance immediately. It is urgent.
Thank you to those who responded to this incident.
