Christmas time always ends with a feast in honor of the baptism of the Lord. This feast is celebrated on the Sunday after Epiphany. Jesus is baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist revealing Jesus to be the Son of God. It is the beginning of his public ministry of which we read in the Gospels.
The Baptism of the Lord also reminds us of our own baptism when we became members of God’s holy family. We exist as members of God’s family in smaller groups called parishes. Therefore, we are members of God’s family gathered together as members of St. Louis parish.
This week we demonstrated what it means to be members of God’s family by our love, support, and prayers for the Campbell family: Ashlee, Kevin, Beau and Georgia. The death of their son and brother, Ladd Gabriel Jordan, after 8 months of life is a very difficult time. As usual the family of God at St. Louis was present to help them and support them as many attended the wake and funeral last weekend. This is what it truly means to be members of God’s family.
Let us continue to grow together as God’s family as we celebrate our 190th anniversary and embark on our 191st year as the faith community of St. Louis. Happy New Year and thank you for your prayers and support.
