Read about the process of the organ console replacement and see all the great photos the day the new one was installed.
Our previous Organ Console which was replaced in 1950 has served us well. Over the decades of use, repairs were needed to be made in order to have it operating at its best. However, in 2015 after 66 years we realized the Organ Console had reached the end of its life span.
Last year, Kerner & Merchant Pipe Organ Builders of Syracuse, N.Y. was contracted to begin building us a new Organ Console. On September 19, 2016, the Organ Console was delivered. In order not to cause any damage to the tiles and flooring by the weight of a lift plus the weight of the organ, the old organ console needed to be dismantled and brought down the winding staircase. Then new organ was dismantled and brought up to the choir loft piece by piece to be reassembled. On the last weekend of September 2016 it played beautifully for the weekend Masses.
Let the beautiful music continue at St Louis!!
Thanks to Tim O'Shea for capturing the great installation photos!
