ONE SUNDAY TO HELP THE WHOLE WORLD
October 19, 2018 | Pastor's Corner
Today is World Mission Sunday. We celebrate this day by remembering the revitalizing mission at the heart of our Christian faith—to bring the Gospel to all.
The Theme for World Mission Sunday 2018 is: “Through Youth to the World: Voices for Mission.” Pope Francis addresses his message for this year’s celebration to young people, saying, “In speaking to you, I also address all Christians who live out in the Church the adventure of their life as children of God. What leads me to speak to everyone through this conversation with you is the certainty the Christian faith remains ever young when it is open to the mission that Christ entrusts to us.”
When all the children of God, at every stage of life, reflect on the fact that our lives are a mission, our faith remains ever young. Together with children of God in every corner of the globe, we become voices for mission, providing the prayerful and financial support necessary to bring the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions.
In a world where so much divides us, World Mission Sunday rejoices in our unity as children of God, His missionaries. It provides an opportunity to support the life-giving presence of the Church among the poor and marginalized in more than 1,111 mission dioceses.
The collection today for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith ensures the work and service of the Mission Church, as it supports priest’s, religious and lay leaders who offer the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions. Thank you for your generosity.
