NEW ACCESSIBLE ENTRY/ WHEELCHAIR LIFT UPDATE UPON THIS ROCK UPDATE
February 22, 2019 | Pastor's Corner
The project for the Wheelchair Lift is now complete except for some external brick work that will be done when the weather is warm enough. The Lift is now in operation and has already been very helpful to many people who have had difficulty with the stairs. The plan included installing a handicap accessible bathroom in the church hall which is now complete as well as the installation of a new floor in the church hall.
This was a project a long time in the making. It had been discussed for 15 plus years and is now a reality. Those with mobility issues will now be able to more easily join us for our activities held in the church hall.
This project has been made possible through your generous donations to the Upon This Rock campaign that we conducted in 2016. We have received five allotments of the proceeds from the Upon This Rock initiative to benefit our parish. January 31st we received another $33,847.35. To date St. Louis has received from Upon This Rock $214,452.45. Over the course of the next few years we will continue to receive two disbursements each year to be used for the lift and modifications to the church hall.
Thanks to your support of the Upon This Rock initiative we are able to complete this long awaited undertaking.
Since the clergy sex abuse crisis has emerged there have been some questions about the funds donated to Upon This Rock. These funds as well as Catholic Charities and Pension Funds are protected funds. This means they can only be used for the purposes for which they were established. They cannot be used to settle any law suits of any kind.
Thanks to your generosity and patience, this project, long in the planning stages, was able to become a reality.
